Subsocial is a new social networking project built on Substrate and operating on the Polkadot ecosystem. Subsocial is a set of Substrate pallets with a web interface that allows users to launch their own decentralized social network.

What if we put Facebook, Medium, Twitter and Patreon together, put it all on a blockchain and give users the opportunity to customize their pages to their needs? Subsocials are created to realize that idea.

Subsocial has greater potential because it is the unbounding of web 2.0 social networks with censor-resistance and monetization built-in. 

Subsocial is a decentralized, open platform that will allow anyone to launch their social networks without being subject to censorship by service providers. Besides, Subsocial intends to remove the unnecessary service providers between the creators and consumers and place the sovereignty of data solely in the hands of its creators. In other words, the creators/owners will have full control of their data and how they monetize it.

In todays world, Data is key, and since we spend most (if not all) of our time online, in a way we are already living in a dual-reality: a physical and a digital one. It seems that in the latter, somewhere along the way we sold our power and rights over the information we provide, an increasingly  concerning issue which is gettig worse and harder to understand as the complexities of technology evolve.

The potential of Subsocial Network over web 2.0 lies in the creation of a decentralized platform that maintains levels of authority equal, meaning no single party can enforce it's rules over its users.  Subsocial will solve problems in today's social networks.such as global censorship, lack of customization,unfair monetization,algorithm dictatorship,monopoly on Network Effects.

I think there are too many reasons why we need web3 platform or solutions to problems most of us probably have faced once when using web2 services, however I would say that 2 points below are main issues.

First, web2 platforts are strictly censored by the Giants or even governments in desregard of our freedom of expression. This is to say that they can pick up comments/accounts and delete them if they don't want them to spread, while they pretend to do right things by calling their actions "censorship". Of course their censorship treatments are not always bad for everyone, but sometimes they make mistakes and I was a victim as well. I had an twitter account to communicate with people/projects in crypto space, but suddenly my account was suspended because they regarded it as a spam bot. I couldn't understand since I only did research and retweet/comments on great projects.

Second, web2 providers are easily adjust their system and utilize our expressions even including influencers/performers on SNS. We know that Youtube has changed monetizing system, which resulted in many youtubers weren't able to get decent incentives. Another example as for this, if we want to monetize or become a bigger influencer then we need to obey their disciplines/thoughts since otherwise we no longer are treated good accounts or even in danger of being deleted. What is worse they can freely change their algorithms, which means we need to adapt to them.

I believe that web3 platforms are free from problems above and allow us to express ourselves and behave more natually in the near future :)
