Bifrost has successfully removed the Sudo module by referendum | Weekly Report 68

Introduction

Bifrost initiated the proposal to remove the Sudo referendum and voted on and implemented it on 13 September 2021, with a total of 80,324 BNC votes and over 400 voting addresses on the chain, and the proposal went live on the chain one hour after it was passed.

Bifrost has now been upgraded from Sudo governance to a decentralised network governed by council and Referendum, but is still in the POA governance phase. Bifrost will be upgraded to a fully on-chain governed decentralised network when the council and technical committee elections are opened.

With the removal of Sudo, a milestone event, the Bifrost mainnet has officially entered Phase 3 and is ready for the launch of SALP, the opening of BNC, vsKSM, vsBond and other referendum proposals.

Ecosystem

  • The Bifrost series of Community Calls went live on Discord on 7 September. There was an in-depth discussion on the launch of SALP and how to support our partners in the second round of Kusama slot bidding.

  • On September 8, Manta & Calamari co-hosted the “Fly Underwater — Web 3.0 DeFi Privacy Forum” featuring Bifrost Product Manager Tyrone for an active discussion on how DeFi projects are cutting through the privacy protection.

  • The Bifrost Forum was completed and launched this week. The forum is currently divided into three sections, namely Governance, Midgard and Chinese. We welcome all members of the WeChat community to actively post and discuss.

  • On 8 September, the Bifrost mainnet Runtime has been successfully upgraded to version v0.8.4, which will support bi-directional asset cross-chaining between Kusama and Bifrost, allowing KSMs to operate interchangeably in the Bifrost and Kusama networks.

  • On September 10th, Centrifuge, in collaboration with Odaily and PolkaWorld, held a live online launch event to share and discuss the story behind and the future of Kusama auctions from the perspective of the project owners on the frontline of bidding, and to dig deeper into the new opportunities of the Polkadot ecology.
