Polkadot Updates

🔴 ⭕️ Relay Chain

current staking rate 63.6% // ideal staking rate 75%

  • Polkadot 0.9.10 has been released with HIGH upgrade priority. It is recommended all Polkadot and Kusama nodes upgrade to avoid loss of sync after the next runtime upgrade. Validators may see this message in their logs WARN tokio-runtime-worker parachain::dispute-distribution: error=ImportCanceled(PeerId("...")) These are nothing to worry about and should no longer appear once the entire network upgrades to 0.9.10. The corresponding runtime upgrade (9100) for Kusama is tentatively planned for next week (4 - 8 Oct) and one or two weeks after that for the Polkadot upgrade.

🔴 🏛 Governance

  • Motion 113 to fund a Polkadot for Beginners book is now under consideration by the Council. The first draft of the book has been posted on Google Docs and feedback is requested by gbaci, the writer.
  • There is a post seeking feedback for a Treasury Proposal for a Polkadot / Kusama conference to be held in Paris, France.
  • Pinknode is seeking feedback for a Treasury Proposal to develop an improved dashboard for monitoring infrastructure.
  • Klever published a proposal to integrate Polkadot Network into their wallet. Roadmap, milestones, and budget can be found on Polkassembly. Leave your comments before submission!
  • Merkle Science published a proposal for council feedback: the project aims to provide a solution for monitoring the Polkadot protocol to proactively and reactively fight the illicit use of the Polkadot tokens. More info on the proposal, along with the roadmap and budget can be found on the post.

This newsletter is made possible thanks to RMRK!

The RMRK Association — stewards of the most advanced NFT standard in the world — has launched its protocol token. You can read all about the protocol’s utility here, learn about the protocol in this webinar, or try out the most advanced NFT project ever created at Kanaria, NFTs that share revenue and do so much more.

The RMRK Association is looking for new blood to join their ranks - specifically, React devs and Rust devs are in high demand, so please apply if you feel like working on technology which is to other NFTs what Ethereum was to Bitcoin.

🦅 ⭕️ Relay Chain

total supply - 11.5mil KSM || staking - 43.4% || parachains - 20.3%

🦅 🏛 Governance

  • Metrika published a proposal for feedback and discussion: aiming to provide a publicly available dashboard that exposes deeper operational KPIs and insights, allowing community members to analyse network activity, consensus participation, or RPC node performance. These real-time dashboards will be publicly accessible. They propose to develop three of these: a Network activity Dashboard, a Consensus and Staking Dashboard, and an RPC Activity Dashboard. Milestones, budget, and overall proposal can be found on the post. Thank you to the community members who already left their feedback.

⛓ Connected Parachains, dApps, and others

projects connected to the DOT and KSM relay chains

  • There is a new proposal in the Astar Builder’s Program to build a bridge connecting Astar/Shiden (based on Substrate) to a Cosmos-SDK-based blockchain. » My Crypto Heroes is coming to Astar (and Shiden)
  • Moonriver records 1 million transactions in 3 weeks helping Polkadot and Kusama demonstrate the power of a Layer 0 multi-chain meta-protocol.
  • Meter.io is now the official cross-chain partner for Moonbeam Network. A special program will be announced with MTRG airdrops for MOVR bridge users.
  • AnySwap is live on Moonriver. AnySwap integration with Moonriver will allow users to bridge assets between Moonriver and multiple chains like Ethereum, Binance, and many more. Learn more
  • The Calamari IDO event has been canceled due to community pushback over the unfairness of having the IDO tokens made available with no lockups while crowdloan tokens are locked up for a year.
  • KILT entered the phase of testing its governance. Check out the decentralisation roadmap to see the next steps.
  • KwikSwap is the first DEX to go live on Shiden Network.
  • Bifrost has released a new update to their runtime. The v0.9.1 update: » Enables vsKSM and vsBond transfers » Implements SALP Farming module

🔗 Candidate Parachains, dApps, and others

projects that are not yet connected to the DOT and KSM relay chains

  • Acala has opened its Crowdloan waitlist. Join the waitlist to get up to 10% in bonus ACA. » Acala announced a partnership with Blockdaemon, a top-performing blockchain infrastructure provider, to support its newly-launched staking derivatives for Polkadot (DOT) and Kusama (KSM).
  • The HydraDX and Composable Finance teams have partnered in a joint venture to build out Angular Finance — an isolated lending pair pallet for the Kusama ecosystem.
  • Crust is bringing decentralized storage solutions to Polygon, HECO, and Near. This enables users and developers to access over 6,000 IPFS nodes and 2,000 PB of storage capacity.
  • The HydraDX team announced that once the HydraDX council gets elected and settles down, it will initiate a referendum with the following proposal:

Retroactively increase the distribution of tokens to HDX LBP participants from 5% up to 15% of the total HDX supply. This means that anyone who participated in the HDX LBP will get their tokens tripled. The team did this to create a more attractive (lower) valuation for their token.

  • Robonomics will take part in the IROS2021 conference with an online workshop on the 1st of October. Register.
  • Cere Network partnered with Lithium Finance to strengthen Lithium’s data privacy protection and safeguard their Wisdom Nodes’ pricing data.
  • Phala released a new weekly report. The most noteworthy update is that 50+mil PHA is currently staked to secure the network.
  • Shiden Network has integrated DIA’s open-source oracle infrastructure to enable easy development with accurate and transparent data.

🌎 Community & Ecosystem

  • Zoe Meckbach hosted a crowdcast yesterday covering Polkadot and Kusama Parachains. The recording is available here.
  • Are you interested in building a parachain for Polkadot or Kusama, or already developing with Substrate? You should register to attend the Sub0 conference on October 13 and 14.
  • Shawn Tabrizi has created a bot to automatically file for a Tip for community members who file PRs to the Polkadot or Substrate repositories. This Tip will fund the initial tipping account.
  • Polkadot News has posted a series of articles about the second batch parachain candidates: their tokenomics, crowdloan terms, rewards, and bonuses. » Polkadot News has aggregated info about Grant programs of Astar, Acala, Moonbeam, HydraDX, Robonomics, ChainX, Darwinia, Crust, Edgeware, and Composable Finance. Learn how to contribute and get financing!
  • Watch Dan Reecer (Acala) and Derek Yoo (Moonbeam) talk about The Future of Polkadot at Mainnet 2021.
  • A couple of Polkadot highlights from Mainnet 2021 by Messari.

⚙ Core Stack

  • Traits for Create and Destroy have been added to Substrate, allowing for integration with fungible and non-fungible tokens like those in Statemine’s Uniques pallet.
”This should help other developers who want to build on top of the Assets or Uniques pallet as a basis for managing tokens in their runtime.”
