Introducing the Cross-Chain Token Mapping for $xWRING

Introduction

With Darwinia 1241 and Crab 1240 Runtime Upgrade, the bridging method between Darwinia Network and Crab Network has changed significantly — Instead of bridging between Darwinia Chain and Crab Smart Chain, we will directly support bridging between Darwinia Smart Chain and Crab Smart Chain, which brings a bridging paradigm between substrate-based chains that support frontier EVM module.

Notable Changes

  • Bridge between Darwinia Chain and Crab Smart Chain is no longer supported.
  • The old cross-chain mapping token xRING on Crab Smart Chain has been renamed to xRING(Classic), and please migrate your xRING to the new cross-chain mapping token xWRING on Crab Smart Chain via the Migration Tool.

You may be a little unfamiliar with the cross-chain mapping token xWRING from Darwinia Smart Chain to Crab Smart Chain. We'll focus on that below. But before that, we need to understand Chains in the Darwinia Network.

Darwinia Chains

There are three types chains in the Darwinia Network, namely Darwinia Chain(DC), Darwinia Smart Chain(DSC), and Darwinia Parachain(DP). DC and DSC provide two sets of different interfaces and chain structures but share the same nodes network, state storage, and native token(RING).

Darwinia Chain

Darwinia Chain (DC) is designed to be the primary chain for tokens and governance, main communication hub and routing point of LCMP, and will support most on-chain light clients for other public chains.

DC is a public chain that can operate independently with its own consensus and security model, with its core business and application services, including cross-chain functionality of each application chain, controlled by DC itself.

Darwinia Smart Chain

Darwinia Smart Chain (DSC) is a full EVM-compatible smart contract platform hosted on DC and is designed to provide greater programmability for Dapps and cross-chain users. The projects from the Ethereum ecosystem can be easily migrated to the Darwinia Network.

DSC does not have its own economy.

Darwinia Parachain

Darwinia Parachain (DP) is designed to be protected by the shared security of the Polkadot Relay Chain. It will integrate Polkadot’s XCMP, open channels with other parachains, and connect to DC via LCMP. Darwinia Network has won the 21st Polkadot parachain slot and will be connected to Polkadot Relay Chain very soon, meanwhile, will build a hybrid cross-chain network for Polkadot.

Cross-Chain Token Mapping

Token Parameters

  • Darwinia Chain Native Token: RING
  • Darwinia Smart Chain Native Token: RING
  • Darwinia Smart Chain Wrapped Token Of Native Token: WRING

WRING exists on Darwinia Smart Chain as the wrapped contract token of native token RING, positioning similar to Ethereum's ETH and WETH.

  • Cross-Chain Mapping Token Of RING From Darwinia Chain To Crab Smart Chain: xRING(Classic)
  • Cross-Chain Mapping Token Of WRING From Darwinia Smart Chain To Crab Smart Chain: xWRING

xWRING can be understood as a composite symbol, xWRING = x + [W + (RING)].

What‘s The Impact On Users?

Darwinia will directly support bridging from Darwinia Smart Chain to Crab Smart Chain, users can:

  1. RING(Darwinia Chain Native Token) <> RING(Darwinia Smart Chain Native Token) via Darwinia Apps.
  2. RING(Darwinia Smart Chain Native Token) <> WRING(Darwinia Smart Chain Wrapped Token Of Native Token) via Snowswap(coming soon) or Helix.
  3. WRING(Darwinia Smart Chain Wrapped Token Of Native Token) <> xWRING(Cross-Chain Mapping Token Of WRING On Crab Smart Chain) via Helix.
WRING Smart Contract Address(Darwinia Smart Chain): 0xE7578598Aac020abFB918f33A20faD5B71d670b4xWRING Smart Contract Address(Crab Smart Chain): 0x273131F7CB50ac002BDd08cA721988731F7e1092

About Darwinia Network

Darwinia is a cross-chain messaging infrastructure, which provides a light client-based, programmable, universal cross-chain messaging network for decentralized applications. Now, we’ve successfully used Darwinia’s light-client cross-chain messaging protocol(LCMP) to bridge cross-chain messages between substrate-based chains, and even between substrate-based chains and EVM chains, meanwhile, Darwinia provides developers with an SDK, so they can easily integrate cross-chain capabilities into their Dapps. This will have profound implications for cross-chain interoperability, and Darwinia as a cross-chain messaging infrastructure will facilitate the building of a hybrid cross-chain network for Polkadot.

Darwinia Network is a highly-secure programmable cross-chain messaging infrastructure for decentralized applications. Our light-client cross-chain messaging protocol (LCMP) supports arbitrary message passing between Substrate chains, and between Substrate and EVM chains, and SDK empower developers with the tools necessary to build the next generation of Web3 applications and seamless user experiences even when transacting across multiple chains or protocols.

Darwinia as a cross-chain messaging infrastructure will facilitate the building of a hybrid cross-chain network for Polkadot.
