DotLeap 62 - Polkadot Parachain Auctions are Live!

Polkadot Updates

🔴 ⭕️ Relay Chain

current staking rate 55% // ideal staking rate 75%

  • Following the passing of Referendum 42, 19 parachain IDs have been reserved; three parathreads (potential parachains) have registered (Acala, Moonbeam, and Astar); crowdloans are well underway, and auctions have started.
  • Kian has issued an update on how the work is coming along to reduce the minimum nomination amount on Polkadot.
  • Approximately 52.8 million DOT (~ 4.7% of total issuance) is now locked up in crowdloans.
  • Because most people were confused by the fact that their “dust” DOT will be reaped if they crowdloan an amount that takes them below 1 DOT, a change is being instituted to allow either a full crowdloan, killing the account, or keep the account alive and maintain a 1 DOT balance.

🔴 🏛 Governance

  • Referendum 41 has passed, allowing Shell to connect to the Relay Chain as Polkadot's first parachain. Shell will be upgraded to Statemint in future.
  • Referendum 42, upgrading Polkadot to runtime v9122, was passed. With this upgrade, parachain registration and crowdloans have been enabled for teams to kick off crowdloans process" or something like this.
  • Motion 123, a Treasury Proposal to fund a Polkadot for Beginners book, was approved by the council.

🦅 🏛 Governance

  • Referendum 150, looking to cancel a crowdloan, failed despite having a majority approval due to adaptive quorum biasing. For those unfamiliar with adaptive quorum biasing (how the passing ratio is determined), we recommend reviewing the wiki page on the topic.
  • Motion 391, to modify HRMP channel parameters, has been approved by the Council.
  • The Treasury Proposal for The DotSama Experience - A virtual journey through the Kusama & Polkadot Networks is under consideration by the Kusama Council.
  • A Treasury Proposal was made for the maintenance of the parachains.info site and was approved by Council.
  • On 12 Oct, an attack via XCM burned 1,001 KSM from the network, causing the total issuance to be incorrect. This motion, seeking to re-create that KSM to have the total issuance to be in line with what is expected, was approved by Council and is now up for a vote by the community in the referenda queue.
  • Motion 393, funding the creation of Speck, a user-friendly wallet for the Polkadot ecosystem, has been approved.
