Subspace Network Integrates with OnFinality to Make Kusama More Decentralized

Subspace Labs brings permanent decentralized storage to Kusama via OnFinality’s Public API to archive the full history of the Kusama relay chain and all live parachains onto the Subspace Network.

Subspace Labs (https://subspace.network/) is thrilled to announce a new integration with OnFinality (https://onfinality.io/)! The integration will leverage OnFinality’s Enhanced API Service to quickly and securely access blockchain data from the Kusama Network and its parachains, enabling Subspace to archive their full history. This integration is a part of a broader effort to support the growth of the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems by providing a permanent, scalable, decentralized storage layer.

Compared to blockchains like Ethereum, where the cost to store 1 MB of data exceeds $400,000, Subspace allows for permanent decentralized storage at less than $1 per GB. Affordable permanent storage allows any blockchain to off-load the burden of running archival nodes onto the Subspace Network, without compromising security or decentralization. Subspace also provides a common retrieval API which simplifies and standardizes access to blockchain data across networks. Together, these features open up a world of possibilities for different blockchains to interact with each other’s data.

OnFinality’s Public API Service allows Subspace Relayer nodes to subscribe to new finalized blocks of the Kusama relay chain and all live parachains. Relayer nodes then bundle each new set of blocks into a storage transaction before submitting to the Subspace Network Blockchain.

OnFinality provides core infrastructure services to developers with a primary focus on Polkadot/Substrate networks. Its API Service allows developers to access high performance managed shared nodes without any setup and at minimal cost. Subspace Labs has built their Kusama Relayer Service on top of OnFinality’s public RPC (Remote Procedure Call) endpoint to back up the full blocks of the Kusama relay chain and all of the live parachains in real-time. Networks currently integrated with the service include Kusama, Statemine, Karura, Bifrost, Shiden, Calamari, Altair, Moonriver, Heiko, Khala, Basilisk, Kilt, and Kintsugi with many more coming soon.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the team at OnFinality to ensure we make this service as robust as possible. Kudos to their engineers for building such a solid API service”.

-- said Jeremiah Wagstaff, Co-founder and CEO at Subspace Labs.

“OnFinality is delighted to support Subspace in their goal of building decentralized storage for the Polkadot ecosystem. As an infrastructure business ourselves, we are proud to work with a team that share the same goals and passion for foundational technology to support the broader Web 3 ecosystem”.

-- said Sam Zou, CEO at OnFinality.

Subspace is able to provide permanent decentralized storage for large volumes of data due to its unique consensus algorithm and market-based incentive mechanism. Farmers (not miners) store as many provably unique segments of the blockchain history as their disk space allows. Since farming is based on storage, it is eco-friendly and accessible to anyone with a hard drive. As more farmers join the network, the cost of storage goes down proportionally.

About Subspace Network

The Subspace Network is a scalable platform for storage and computation designed to maximize vertical and horizontal scalability without compromising security or decentralization by combining its own novel consensus algorithm with a host of cutting-edge academic proposals. After several years of research, largely funded by a grant from the US National Science Foundation, Subspace Labs raised a $4.5MM seed round in June 2021 led by Hypersphere Ventures and Stratos Technologies.
