With one day left in the current parachain lease auction, Karura has been in the lead the majority of the Ending Period. https://parachains.info/auctions/kusama

After the upcoming runtime upgrade, OpenGov can initiate a Referendum to activate async backing (6s parachain block time). https://forum.polkadot.network/t/async-backing-development-updates/6176/4

Due to this, Kusama validators should upgrade ASAP to the latest version of the Polkadot Host software. https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/releases/tag/polkadot-v1.8.0

Assuming no issues with async backing on Kusama, it can be enabled at any time after that on Polkadot.
