July 2022 In Review

The last few weeks have seen an increase in our marketing activities while the developers keep working behind the scenes. We’re going to continue ramping up on the marketing side of things, but we also have cool technical developments on the way. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what happened in July.

AirLyft Integration

Announced on July 1st, AirLyft integrated Subsocial’s functionality into their Web3 growth hacking platform. AirLyft is similar to the popular Web2 growth hacking platform Gleam, with the added advantage of being connected to blockchains. Now, in addition to requiring participants to retweet tweets, subscribe to YouTube channels, etc., campaign organizers can require participants to perform actions on Subsocial such as following a certain space. This will allow us to run on-chain growth hacking campaigns focused on familiarizing users with using Subsocial, and give rewards to the community!

Sub.ID

July saw two upgrades to Sub.ID. On the 8th we released the bookmarking feature, which you can use in combination with the Interesting Accounts page to easily track the portfolio movements of interesting accounts in the ecosystem, like councilors and big crowdloaners. On the 27th, more translations were added, this time for Español and Deutsch. You can find the language selector in the bottom left corner.

The Current State Of Subsocial

Last month we put out a two part series of articles about the current state of Subsocial as a project. Every month we do this review, but it only focuses on things we have already done. The purpose of these two articles was to show where we are right now, and where we are going.

Lots of topics are covered in these two articles, including our NRG system and ideas for UX improvements. Definitely check them out to get a good idea of what’s going on with Subsocial!

Polkadot Decoded Recording

Our Content Lead Yung Beef presented at Polkadot Decoded in Buenos Aires at the end of June, but we did not get the recording of it until July. The presentation did an awesome job of explaining what Subsocial is and why it’s needed.

How Do We Get Grandma On Subsocial?

You may have seen or heard us talking about this recently, because it is a great lens for seeing how we can improve the user experience of Subsocial. On the 22nd, we put together a thread explaining the three key points that can lead to getting Grandma on Subsocial.

Community Call

On July 26th we hosted a community call in our Discord to cover the contents of the two part article series mentioned above. If you would rather listen than read, check it out.

A Talk WithSubsquid

The Subsquid team recently built us a sweet new blockchain indexer that will let us improve the performance and experience of Subsocial, and they had us on a Twitter Space with them on the 27th, along with the founder of Joystream, to discuss social media in Web3. David asked excellent questions and we had some interesting discussions. If you want to learn more about Subsquid, Joystream, or Subsocial, give it a listen.

That’s all we’ve got for July! The next month or two should have some very interesting stuff, so stay tuned.

About Subsocial

Subsocial is a social networking platform built to support the social networks of the future. These apps will feature built-in monetization methods and censorship resistance, where users will own their content and social graphs. Built with Substrate pallets, Subsocial is a one-of-a-kind in the Dotsama ecosystem, and designed specifically for social interactions. These interactions do not have to be specifically social networking, as Subsocial can support apps like YouTube, Shopify, or even Airbnb.

Subsocial is an open platform that allows for the integration of user-friendly Web3 social features into existing applications, or the creation of brand new socially-powered apps from the ground up. In fact, Subsocial's innovative UX solutions make using Web3 so simple, even your grandma can use it!

By providing all of the native features required for creating decentralized social experiences, Subsocial allows developers to focus on building apps, not on re-inventing the wheel, and helps them stand out from the competition by delivering a user-centric social experience.
