Open Ocean Council Website Launch

The Open Ocean Council is one of the most exciting and important elements of the Subsquid ecosystem, and the website that will be the home of what we already lovingly call the Squid Squad is now just a tentacle's click away. With the Open Ocean Council being officially launched now, we thought we'd take the opportunity to remind you what the Open Ocean Council is all about, how it will operate, and, most importantly, how you can join!

What is the Open Ocean Council?

With Subsquids intention to transition into a DAO, the Open Ocean Council will be the body that oversees the development of the project from that point onwards. All aspects of Subsquid, spreading from marketing to product development will be in the hands of the Open Ocean Council, with decisions made democratically using a governance model that has the SQD token at its heart.

Membership of the Open Ocean Council is open to anyone who has the desire to help Subsquid grow, with two teams comprising the council - Team Abyss and Team Sonar. Team Abyss is responsible for developing and maintaining the technical side of the Subsquid protocol while Team Sonar's responsibility is to grow and manage the community.

Open Ocean Council members will guide the Subsquid project as it navigates the new and experimental waters of the web3 space, and they will be rewarded for doing so; exclusive Subsquid NFTs and rewards in USDC as well as SQD tokens are available.

How do I Join?

In order to be considered for election into the Open Ocean Council, individuals will have to first complete a number of 'quests' which are simply tasks related to their team (Abyss or Sonar) which have a positive impact on the protocol. The overall activity will be reflected by the XP count shown on the Discord leaderboard which is also seen on the site. Here is an overview of the process by which new council members will be elected:

There will be rewards for completion of these quests, with those wanting a place on the Open Ocean Council needing to aim high and top the leaderboards in their respective teams to earn a nomination. This nomination is then voted on by the existing council. More details on the Open Ocean Council election process will be available on the site once it launches.

We will shortly introduce more roles within the two teams for members to thrive for, and we can't wait to grow together as a real decentralised organisation that solves critical challenges of the blockchain ecosystem as a whole.
